Market News

Hello!
A lot of you knew the 2nd line of Chestnuts Roasting… – “Jack Frost nipping at your okra". I guess it was a premonition since we received a dusting of frost this morning. The okra is currently like a 7 foot stick with a flower or pod on top. I think that it survived the frost due to its height. Chestnuts form Caney Fork Farm are offered again this week.

Amazing amount of produce available this week. Rocky Glade Farm is back with lots of interesting veggies. Their many types of radishes stood out to me. The Hershbergers have lots of October beans which is a shell bean that is very flavorable. Dozen Bakery has listed the ever popular Apple Galette. I may have to get one in order to satisfy my hunger after watching episodes of The Great British Baking Show. As the credits roll, I’m left wondering why aren’t there pies or cakes in my house?

When I was growing up, there were times when I cleaned out our kitchen pantry. I would find baking potatoes hiding in there with gigantic sprouts. At some point I realized that potatoes were treated with something to keep them from sprouting in the grocery store. I was never curious enough to research what was being done to keep the potatoes from sprouting. This week I finally Googled: why don’t potatoes sprout in the store? The answer is: Chlorpropham. It doesn’t seem to be completely harmless for those of us who want potatoes in the spring.

Lots of fine meat items from Wedge Oak and Bear Creek Farms.

Dozen Bakery cookies and breads, eggs, granola, honey, and coffee are all in abundance.

You have until Tuesday night to place your order.
Thanks for your support, and I will see you on Wednesday!

If you need to text me, my number is 615-838-0428.
